Ironman Lake Placid 2024 kicks off on Sunday, July 21, 2024. This year’s event is particularly special as it marks the 25th anniversary of the Ironman triathlon in Lake Placid, one of the most iconic races in the series.
The race begins with a 3.8 km swim in Mirror Lake, with athletes entering the water from Mirror Lake Beach. After swimming 2 laps of the swim course, athletes exit the water to transition to the bike leg of the race.
On the bike course, athletes head out on a challenging 180 km ride through the Adirondack Mountains, completing 2 laps of the bike loop. The race concludes with a 42.195 km marathon on a rolling run course that ends at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval on Main Street in Lake Placid.
With a demanding yet scenic race route, Ironman Lake Placid draws athletes and spectators from around the world. Traveling from Lake Placid to Keene and on to Wilmington and back, the course allows athletes to enjoy the beauty of the Adirondacks while testing their stamina and endurance.

On race day, you can get involved in one of three ways: compete, spectate, or volunteer. Competing in any Ironman race requires extensive training and preparation ahead of time, including registering early to secure your spot. Ironman weekend is one of the busiest of the summer, so make sure you book your lodging early. If you want to stay anywhere near race staging areas during Ironman weekend, advanced booking is a must.
Ironman week lodging closest to Lake Placid can fill up quickly, so if it’s important for your party to be close to the central race area, be sure to reserve early. Several other communities along the bike route are also popular during Ironman including Wilmington, Jay, Upper Jay, and Keene/Keene Valley.
