Summer Keene and Keene Valley Vacation – What To Do

Explore The Trails

The Keene and Keene Valley region provides the best base camp location for exploring the Adirondack Mountains. This is even more true if you plan on becoming a 46er.

Many of the trail heads for the 46ers are best accessed from the Keene or Keene Valley areas. These mountains include: Cascade, Porter, Big Slide, Giant, Nippletop, Dial, Colvin, Blake, Sawteeth, Gothics, Armstrong, Upper Wolfjaw, Lower Wolfjaw, Saddleback, Basin and Haystack.

There are also some opportunities for some smaller hikes that provide wonderful vistas for you to enjoy. Check out Owls Head Mountain, Big Crow Mountains and Baxter Mountain quicker and relatively easier hikes that are more ideal for beginners or someone looking for smaller crowds and fewer people, unlike the 46ers that have really increased in popularity.

Visit The Farmers Market

Looking for a fun way to spend a weekend morning? Check out the Keene Farmer’s Market that occurs at Marcy Field.

This is one of the largest farmer’s markets that can be found in the Adirondacks. You can find a variety of things from local artisans and farmers.

Pick up fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits as well as homemade bread and baked goods to bring back to your vacation rental or on your day’s adventures.

You can also browse work from various local artists including photography, paintings, and wood working, and sculpture. Find the perfect handcrafted souvenir to remember your Adirondack adventure.

Finally, be sure to stop and listen to local musicians while you shop!

Try A New Restaurant

Fuel up for your Keene and Keene Valley vacation adventures at one of the local restaurants in the region.

Noon Mark Diner and Old Mountain Coffee Company offer the perfect breakfast options to fuel up in the morning. Fresh cups of coffee, baked goods and breakfast food will fill you up! Both of these also serve lunch, so the short adventures can finish up at each restaurant.

Forty Six and The Ausable Inn are great options for a sit down lunch or dinner while in the Keene region. If you are more interested in a meal on the go, stop by Cedar Run Bakery & Market. They offer sandwiches and baked goods making it ideal for any hiking or adventure days.

Another dinner option is the Baxter Mountain Tavern offering a spacious deck where you can take in the beauty of the surrounding Adirondack mountains.

Discover Some Artists

The Keene region is home and inspiration for a wide spectrum of talented and unique artisans. Spend your lazy or rainy vacation days exploring their work in shops or studios to appreciate new artists and their work. Local artisans include furniture makers, painters, photographers, musicians, sculptors and woodworkers.

Keene Arts offers a summer concert series with a variety of musicians to enjoy.
